Frigidaire Teams Up With Gowalla

Frigidaire has teamed up with mobile app, Gowalla, in a new effort to promote healthy eating in America.  Frigidaire’s new Kids’ Cooking Academy Summer Session (which is currently running through September) allows families to learn about the seasonality of food and how to best prepare these fresh ingredients.  Gowalla is supporting this effort by asking its community of “Passport Holders” to share the location, post photos and stories of their favorite farmers market.  Every time one of the Passport Holders check-in at one of these farmers market locations, Frigidaire will donate $1 to the Save the Children’s Change program.  This program is supported by Jennifer Gardner and provides nutritious snacks and exercise opportunities for children living in poverty.

For those that want to contribute to this cause and are not Gowalla users or frequenters of farmers markets, they can go to maketimeforchange.com, where they will commit to eating fresh, which then triggers a donation from Frigidaire.  There is also campaign support via Facebook and Twitter, as a way to keep the conversation going and top of mind.

For all of the people check-in with Gowalla or sign up online, they will automatically be entered for a chance to win a Frigidaire Gallery French door refrigerator.  Read more about this great cause marketing campaign at: http://adage.com/article/goodworks/helping-kids-frigidaire-gowalla-push-eating/228249/

OpenTable For Salons and Spas: StyleSeat

Have you moved to a new city and you are having a hard time finding a new stylist or salon? Has your stylist moved? Well, StyleSeat the new website that launched this week at TechCrunch can help you find that perfect new person.  It’s been likened to OpenTable and even Facebook, but this new website is a great combination of both websites, as well as a site that provides a database of reviews for hair salons and spas, while also allowing you to book an appointment, see pricing, or access more information about the stylists themselves (which is what differentiates the site from the Yelp!s of the world).

In addition to all of the great functionality listed above, StyleSeat also allows salons to share content on Facebook, access analytics about conversions and traffic, send marketing emails to clients and post promotions and deals.  On the opposite end, consumers are easily able to search for stylists in their geographic location by cost, type of hair or specialty.

Go on, try it out (and let us know your opinion!): http://www.styleseat.com/

Drink Coffee, Fight Alzheimer’s

A Finnish research study, published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, found that drinking coffee in mid-life can reduce the risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease later in life.

The study followed 1,400 adults for roughly 20 years and found that those who drank three to five cups of coffee a day were 65% less likely to develop dementia than those who drank none or very little.
