During the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this week, MySpace announced it’s plan to make watching TV a more social activity. MySpace, in conjunction with Toshiba’s new televisions with Internet-connecting Intel chips, is launching a MySpace TV Widget. This application will serve as a mini-version of MySpace, with users being able to message back and forth with friends, receive status updates, view profiles and photos (exactly like the site), but people will access it from their televisions. The primary focus of this widget is to appeal to viewers of live events, so that fans can trash-talk with each other during “the big game,” while others can help campaign for their favorite American Idol contestant during the show’s airing.
