Verizon Wireless is going to be launching their new pre-paid cell service, which will only cost users 99 cents a day.  Verizon is going to go guerilla in New York with this campaign by offering 99 cent taxi cab rides in New York today only and they will follow this initiative with 99 cent ice cream cones for New Yorkers next week.

Verizon is trying to change consumers beliefs that they are only a contract carrier and they thought that these 99 cent promotions reinforced their new cost-effective alternative to cell phone service.

The guerilla marketing stunts are part of a larger New York campagin which will include print and out of home advertising including subway, bus and bus shelter ads, as well as digital signage.  The national TV campaign launched on May 26th.

To be honest, I have not heard of this new plans for Verizon, and I am a customer.  Its worrysome if the national campaign launched almost two weeks ago and someone who watches 5 hours of tv a day, listens to the radio for 2 hours a day and is on the internet for at least 4-5 hours a day, has not heard a snippet of this plan.  Have you heard of Verizon’s new pre-paid cell phone plan?
